Voters in the Poteau Public School District approve one of two bond propositions for school improvements, expansions and equipment.

Proposition number one failed with 489 yes votes (53 percent) to 432 no votes (47 percent), according to the LeFlore County Election Board. Oklahoma law states school districts must pass bond issues with a super majority or 60 percent of the votes.

Proposition number one is whether or not the school district will issue bonds in the sum of $975,000 to provide funds for the purpose of constructing, equipping, repairing, and remodeling school buildings, acquiring school furniture, fixtures, and equipment.

Proposition number two on the ballot passed with 547 yes votes (62 percent) to 354 no votes (39 percent).

Proposition number two allows the school district to issue bonds in the sum of $640,000 to provide funds for the purpose of purchasing transportation equipment, including new school buses.
