The remains of formerly missing pilot Jake Harrell have been successfully recovered, according to the Arkansas Forestry Commission.
A National Guard helicopter lifted the remains from the mountainside where his plane went down. He is now in route back to his family, by law enforcement escort from the NLRPD and the Arkansas Forestry Commission.
The Arkansas Department of Emergency Management confirmed that the 11-day search for Harrell was one of the largest search efforts in the history of Arkansas – in terms of the vast search area and the many organizations involved.
Fire departments lined the roads of Montgomery County to honor the path home for Harrell.
He originally went missing on Jan. 31 and was only located on Feb. 11 from the air before being recovered today. An official investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the crash.
