A man is in the hospital after investigators say he held two small children and his wife hostage before being shot by deputies in Rogers early Thursday morning.

Benton County deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call around 1 a.m., after a female victim called 911 requesting help. After that, the phone was immediately disconnected, according to a statement released by the Benton County Sheriff's Office.

After deputies arrived, they were met in the front yard of the home by a female victim. They learned that there were two small children in the home with an armed male intruder. The intruder was identified as the estranged husband of the female victim, according to the statement.

Negotiations began and shots were fired from the residence, causing deputies to seek shelter, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Shortly afterward, the front door opened and the two children emerged. They were immediately escorted to a separate location, and the female victim was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"A brief confrontation between the armed subject and deputies led to the subject being shot and disarmed. He was treated on-scene by an attending physician, and later transported by helicopter to Washington Regional Hospital, where his condition is unknown," the news release stated.

The ongoing investigation is being led by the Arkansas State Police along with the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.

The home belongs to Josephine Anne Barry and Dwayne Hagan Culmer, according to property records. Neighbors said they rent the home out to Devin Weaver and Ashley Weaver, although deputies have not said any of them were involved in the incident.
