Fayetteville residents will have the opportunity to attend a community orchard planting and workshop on Thursday (Feb. 20), according to a news release from Lindsley Smith, Fayetteville Director of Communications.

The workshop is called “Fruit Rootin’!,” and it’s a kick-off event for the Yvonne Richardson Community Center located at 240 E. Rock St. in Fayetteville.

The orchard will be a resource for the community through fruit harvest, work days, and other educational opportunities. It will be planted next to the established Kid Crops Community Garden, a program at the YRCC.

“After an introduction, the public is welcome to participate in a workshop called ‘Planting a Fruit Tree & 1st Year Care’ with Guy Ames, Horticulturist, of the National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT).  This workshop will lead the planting effort of 12 fruit trees,” the news release stated.

Tools and gloves will be provided. Volunteers should wear clothing suitable for outdoor yard work.

For more information about the orchard, contact Urban Forester Derek Linn at       479-444-3486.
