Diamond Hogs Roll In Season Opener

Beeks dominant as the Prairie Grove native strikes out six in opener

It may have been the season opener but Jalen Beeks looked in mid-season form Friday afternoon.

Beeks, a Prairie Grove native, threw six scoreless innings and struck out six as Arkansas had few problems with Appalachian State in a 12-2 win at Baum Stadium.

The win not only kicks off the 2014 season but also marks the 400th victory for Arkansas inside Baum Stadium.

Tyler Spoon, who led Arkansas in the RBI department last season, picked up where he left off as his RBI single sparked a three run first inning.

Preseason all-American Brian Anderson picked up three hits and drove in three to lift the Arkansas offense while Krisjon Wilkerson belted a two run home run.

Arkansas (1-0) pounded out 13 hits in the season opener while the Hogs' pitching staff held the Mountaineers to just four hits.

The Razorbacks and Appalachian State meet again Saturday in game two of a three game series.
