Kopper-Kettle Candies has been in business in the River Valley for more than 50 years. According to the shop’s owners, the bulk of the family’s revenue is made during the winter months.

“Christmas and Valentine’s is about 60 percent of our business for the year,” said Tommy Greer. “Our busiest day of the year is Valentine’s Day so it’s very important to be prepared for that because there’s only one a year.”

Greer said they begin planning for Valentine’s Day months in advance. They ordered the infamous heart-shaped candy boxes in September and began preparing for today as soon as Christmas passed.

Berry Ann said the most popular item sold during Valentine’s Day is the pre-selected assorted candy boxes. They will custom pack a gift box for customers interested in choosing their own variety.

For the past 35 years, Greer and his wife, Berry Ann, have been running the business founded by Greer’s parents.

“I enjoy being with him every day,” said Berry Ann.

The Greers said they enjoy the perks of owning a candy shop.

“It’s a fun business to have because people come in here out of choice, not because of necessity,” said Berry Ann.

Several family members and friends work at the shop throughout the year, according to the Greers, especially helping to prepare for this “special” holiday.
