Former President Bill Clinton Honored At Razorback Game

The University of Arkansas celebrated the championship legacy of Razorback Basketball on Saturday in Bud Walton Arena

The University of Arkansas celebrated the championship legacy of Razorback Basketball on Saturday (Feb. 15) in Bud Walton Arena.

The Razorbacks have made a trip to the NCAA Final Four six times in history: in 1941, 1945, 1978, 1990, 1995, along with the National Championship season of 1994.

Among the former Hogs in attendance were, Head Coach Nolan Richardson, Corliss Williamson, Scotty Thurman and Todd Day.

In addition, former President of the United States, Bill Clinton, helped celebrate the 20th anniversary of the NCAA Championship team. President Clinton was presented a framed No. 42 jersey as part of the celebration.

The number 42 carries significant meaning. Clinton was the 42nd President of the United States and the 42nd Governor of the State of Arkansas.

"I would like to thank Coach Richardson for not only teaching us forty minutes of hell, but being willing to go through hell to get us the national championship title," Clinton said.

Clinton was President at the time the Hogs won their only basketball championship, and is the only sitting President to attend a NCAA Title game while in office.

"I had successfully watched us defeat Michigan, Arizona and Duke," Clinton said. "That's 51 electoral votes. We have six. Somebody asked me if I was crazy. I said, 'If you have been waiting for this as long as we have it would be worth every single one'."
