Arkansas Survives Scare From South Carolina

The Hogs forced a turnover in the final seconds to secure the victory.

It was suppose to be the easiest SEC game of the year, but the Arkansas basketball team needed all 40 minutes to top South Carolina at Bud Walton Arena Wednesday night.

The Hogs beat the last place team in the league, 71-64, to improve to 17-9 overall and 6-7 in the SEC.

With 15 seconds left in the game, South Carolina had a chance to tie, but the Hogs forced a turnover, and hit clutch free throws in the final seconds.

During the first half, it didn't seem like this game would need to come down to the wire. Arkansas went on a 20-2 run to take a 40-23 lead late in the first frame.

South Carolina came back and used a 15-0 run of their own and tied the game at 55 with five minutes to go.

From that point on, Arkansas halted the Gamecock's run. A Mardracus Wade three with a minute left put the Hogs up five and they controlled from there.

Michael Qualls paced Arkansas with 20 points. Coty Clarke added 12.

Arkansas returns to action Saturday at Mississippi State.
