A kitten was rescued after a woman found it covered in snow and ice at the corner of Rt. 57 and Griswold, around 8:30 a.m. on Monday.

Dara Taylor of Elyria was on her way to work when she stopped and brought the kitten to the Friendship Animal Protective League.

“With the ice clung to him and the snow clung to him, I thought he was a chunk of ice in the road ’cause of his coloring, and it was total shock when I saw him move. As soon as I opened up my door,  you could hear the meows–the forlorn little cries. I just cradled him in my arms and put him back in the van,” Taylor said.

According to the Friendship APL, the animal was in bad shape when it was brought in; then it began to meow, so they took it to the Lorain Animal Clinic to get checked out.

Shelley MacDonald with the Friendship APL said, “Since he has been here this morning, he’s already become more alert. His body temperature seems to be back to normal, and we’re really hopeful he’ll make a full recovery.”

The kitten did not have frostbite, but has a bad upper respiratory infection that is being treated with antibiotics.
