Pitching Carousel Continues for Diamond Hogs

Local stars Jalen Beeks and Chris Oliver will each get their second start this weekend against Eastern Illinois.

Just one week into the season, the Arkansas baseball team is still trying to find the right chemistry for a starting pitching rotation.

Prairie Grove's Jalen Beeks and Farmington's Chris Oliver each picked up wins last weekend against Appalachian State, and both will start on the mound this weekend against Eastern Illinois.

However, coach Dave Van Horn hinted he would like to change that in the future.

"I will tell you that one of those guys will probably be in the bullpen," said Van Horn.

"I'll also tell you that I love Jalen Beeks finishing games."

The Hogs lost seven pitchers from last year's squad. Beeks and Oliver have the most experience coming back. So they'll lead the charge for now until the younger pitchers gain experience and grow comfortable.

"If we can get three quality starters, and it doesn't have to be Oliver and Beeks, involved in that it's really going to help our team," said Van Horn.

Six new pitchers debuted last weekend, with junior college transfer Jacob Stone getting the win on Sunday.

Arkansas and Eastern Illinois kick off a three-game set at Baum Stadium Friday at 3 p.m.
