It was announced today via news release that the Fayetteville and Springdale Girl Scouts will host their annual World Thinking Day on Sunday (Feb. 23).
The event will take place in the Fayetteville Town Center from 2 pm to 5 pm with approximately 250 registered Girl Scouts in attendence with their families. World Thinking Day is the international celebration of Girl Scouts, during which they recognize their part in the 102-year-old global community of Scout and Guide sister.
“To celebrate World Thinking Day, girls are encouraged to explore countries from the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts and the daily lifestyles of girls abroad. Participating Girl Scout Troops represent a country of their choosing at the event, offering a sampling of culturally authentic foods, crafts, songs, dances and games at their country’s booth,” the news release stated.
The 2014 World Thinking Day will begin with an opening flag ceremony presenting flags for each country. It will follow with performances from several troops and guest University of Arkansas international students that are studying abroad. At the end of opening ceremonies, girls will be invited to visit booths where they’ll receive stamps in their World Thinking Day passports as they experience cultures that are new to them.
Girls can purchase food and craft items with a 10 cent donation. All the money collected will be donated to the Juliette Low World Friendship Fund, which provides Girl Scouts and Girl Guides across the world with different opportunities for international travel and participation in training and international events.
