A Fayetteville man is behind bars after police say cut through a woman’s door with an ax while trying to chase her down.
Jared Davis, 31, was arrested Friday morning on suspicion of aggravated assault, theft of property and first-degree criminal mischief. He remained Friday night in the Washington County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Davis stayed Thursday night at the home of his friend’s mother. The woman told police she heard Davis in the middle of the night walking up and down the halls of the house talking to himself and “zoning out, staring into space.”
The suspect became angry and demanded the woman come out of her room, after she had locked herself in. When she did not come out, Davis retrieved an ax from the garage and broke through the door with it, according to a preliminary report from the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office.
The woman retreated to her bathroom, locked the door and called police, the report states.
After making it into the woman’s bedroom, the suspect alleged broke into the bathroom where the woman was hiding. She was able to get away from Davis and run to a neighbor’s house, according to the preliminary report.
Davis allegedly took the ax and left. Police later found the suspect and the ax, and arrested Davis.
Police said the woman had allowed Davis to spend the night when he showed up at the home because he looked ill.
