A Springdale man was sentenced to 30 years in prison Monday after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl, according to the Benton County Prosecutor’s Office.

Leonard Eugene Releford, 32, pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual assault in a deal with prosecutors. He had initially faced a charge of statutory rape, said Stuart Cearley, deputy prosecutor in Benton County.

Releford’s trial was scheduled to begin Tuesday in Benton County Circuit Court, Cearley said. Releford must register as a sex offender, as part of the deal.

Releford was arrested in 2012 after a young girl said he had inappropriately touched her, according to court documents.
