A fire broke out at the historic Majestic Hotel in Hot Springs yesterday evening (Feb. 27) and continued burning into this morning. The fire was located in the northeast part of the building.

The call came in around 6:00 p.m. and half an hour later more crews were requested to help, according to the Hot Springs Fire Department.

The American Red Cross was on scene to help firefighters. Fire crews say the fire appeared to have started on the top floor, then spread to the fourth and third floors of the building.

At this time, the hotel is a total loss. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Majestic hotel has been closed since 2006.
