The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is set to receive three ballistic K-9 vests thanks to a grant from Vested Interest in K-9s, according to a news release put out today.

Basha, Egan and Opey, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office working K-9s, will receive a vest.

They are patrol K-9s, which are trained in narcotics detection and are used in patrol, search warrants and school visits.

Opey, a Bavarian Bloodhound, is part of the Sheriff’s Office search team. Opey specializes in lost/missing persons, especially children.

Vested Interest in K-9s is a 501c (3) charity located in East Taunton, MA. Their mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests for law enforcement dogs through the United States.

Each vest costs $950 and has a 5-year warranty.

“Through private and corporate sponsorships, Vested Interest in K9s has provided 585 law enforcement dogs in 39 states with protective vests since 2009. All vests are custom made for each K9 and are made in the U.S.A.,” the news release stated.
