Two major Wednesday night events at the university have school officials planning for heavy traffic in the area.

Former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is scheduled to speak at Barnhill Arena at 7 p.m., the same time the University of Arkansas men’s basketball team hosts the University of Mississippi at Bud Walton Arena.

University police will be managing traffic flow on campus and will conduct security checkpoints at the Rice event, according to a statement released by the UA. Barnhill Arena will open at 5:30 p.m. for early arrivals. Free parking will be available at 5 p.m. for those attending the Rice event, in Lot 44, the Stadium Avenue parking garage and the Baum Stadium east parking lot. University Transit will also provide a bus shuttle service to and from the event, starting at 5:30 p.m., at Baum Stadium east parking lot, according to the university.

Rice is speaking at the university as part of the UA’s Distinguished Lecture Series.
