Police Identify Man Killed In Bella Vista 4-Car Wreck

The man killed in a four-vehicle wreck in Bella Vista on Thursday morning has been identified as John Alspaugh, according to police.

Alspaugh, 81, was riding in a Ford Escape when a Chevrolet Avalanche collided with the vehicle at 7:28 a.m. on Thursday. Alspaugh was declared dead after emergency crews rushed him to the hospital from the site of the crash at U.S. Highway 71 between Kingsland Road and Riordan Road

Two other people at the scene were hospitalized, said Capt. Tim Cook with the Bella Vista Police Department. The driver of the Ford Escape, Wayne Rutherford, 65, was airlifted to Mercy Medical Center in Springfield, Mo., after suffering serious injuries, police said.

The driver of the Chevrolet Avalanche suffered relatively minor injuries, but was hospitalized as well, police said.

No one else was hurt in the crash.
