The Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area manages over 12,000 acres of land in southeastern Benton County. As part of the management activities of the site, four controlled burns are planned from March 10 through March 31, according to a news release put out today.

Park neighbors near the controlled burn areas are being notified.

“The burns are being conducted by specially-trained crews from Arkansas State Parks, Arkansas Forestry Commission and local fire departments skilled in fire management operations.  Safety is emphasized in all phases of the fire management with local fire protection representatives being involved in the planning process,” the news release stated.

Drivers are asked to operate their vehicles with caution due to the possibility of reduced visibility caused by smoke.

Signs will be posted on the days of the burns.

Benefits to the burn include: reducing fuel loads in the woods and promoting a healthy forest habitat. Reducing the fuel load will also help prevent forest fires.

The location of the burns are Burn unit one:  the Blackburn Creek area near the public Shooting Range. Burn unit two: the Van Hollow area with Piney Road on the west side, Highway 12 on the north, Old Piney Store Road on the south and Little Cliffy Creek on the east. Burn unit three: the Lookout area located at the intersection of State Highway 12 and 127. Burn unit four: the Jeske Place along the War Eagle Creek on the south boundary of the park, the news release said.

All questions should be directed to the Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area at 479-789-5000.
