A Greenwood man is behind bars at the Sebastian County Detention Center on Saturday (March 8) after leading authorities on a high-speed chase in Fort Smith.
Kyle Spoon faces 13 charges, including two counts of battery, six counts of aggravated assault, and one count each of fleeing apprehension, resisting arrest, refusal to submit to a blood-alcohol test, driving while intoxicated and fleeing by vehicle, according to police records.
Police say Spoon was fleeing from authorities when he drove through a 5K and 10K run event hosted by the Junior League of Fort Smith.
A neighbor of Spoon's said this incident came as a shock, "I was I want to say, I couldn't hardly believe it really cause he's 23 years old and sometimes they go through this."
Sgt. Wayne Barnett said, "None of us knew at the time they were having a 5K run out there this morning, so we had off-duty officers there that were out there helping direct traffic."
