A mostly rain dominate event will affect the area over this weekend with several inches of rain possible on Saturday night into Sunday morning. As the cold air arrives from the northwest it will mix briefly with the moisture causing some light snow to fall.

Due to the snow occurring during the daylight hours and relatively warmer ground conditions than weeks ago, it’s unlikely we’ll see widespread travel implications and snow accumulations may be held to elevated and grassy surfaces.

Rainfall totals will be high, this should be our first good rain in a while. Totals may exceed 2 inches in many locations.

Here’s the computer model’s depiction of where snow could likely accumulate. This looks like a scenario where many of us actually see snow, but only a few of us actually see anything accumulate.

This is the map that shows the location where we would expect to see greatest chance of accumulation. It looks like the best chance for around 1″ of snow is in Missouri.

To recap:

  • Saturday:
  • Heaviest Rain late evening and around midnight
  • No severe weather, some thunder
  • No flash flooding due to near drought conditions, but up to 2″ rain possible
  • Sunday:
  • Lingering light rain in the morning.
  • Changing to light snow in the afternoon and evening
  • Ending by around 8pm
  • No widespread travel problems are expected into Monday morning
  • Currently, it does not look like school closings will occur Monday.
