Add another title to the trophy case at Greenwood High School. The girls basketball team is the 6A state champions after a 64-49 win over Little Rock Parkview Saturday afternoon at Summit Arena in Hot Springs.
Megan Hartness was named the MVP with 27 points. Lundon Williams and Haleigh Henson also added 16 apiece.
"That was our goal from the first practice to get to this point," said school all-time leading scorer Lundon Williams. "It feels great we accomplished those goals."
Greenwood started fast, getting up by 15 points 15 minutes into the game, setting the entire tone.
Parkview cut into the lead in the third quarter, making it a 53-44 game heading to the fourth quarter, but Greenwood knocked down clutch free throws down the stretch.
The win solidifies the Bulldogs as a perennial basketball power.
"There's a lot of young kids in the bleachers," said Greenwood coach Clay Reeves. "This will be their goal one day and they see they can reach it."
