Oliver Paces Diamond Hogs in Series Winner

Chris Oliver pitched a career-best 7 innings with six strikeouts in the 1-0 win over Alabama.

Farmington native Chris Oliver posted a career-best 7 innings pitched as the Arkansas baseball team posted its third shutout of the year Sunday afternoon, blanking Alabama 1-0 to capture the series win at Baum Stadium.

Oliver was dominant, allowing just four hits and striking out six. That gave way to Michael Gunn, who slammed the door with two perfect innings to earn his third save of the year.

"I thought, obviously, this was Chris Oliver’s best outing since he’s been here," said head coach Dav Van Horn. He really pitched today. He actually changed speeds on his fastball, used his breaking ball a lot, mixed in a few change-ups. I thought he did a good job of keeping the Alabama off balance at least the first couple of times through."

Krisjon Wilkerson scored the only run Arkansas would need in the second inning. After a one-out triple off the wall in left-center field, he was knocked home on an RBI groundout by Bobby Wernes. Andrew Benintendi led the Razorbacks with two hits of the team’s five hits.

The Razorbacks return to action Tuesday gainst Mississippi Valley State in doubleheader action at Baum Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 3:05 p.m. The two teams will then head to North Little Rock for a Wednesday contest at Dickey-Stephens Park at 6:35 p.m.
