The 38th Annual Hogeye Marathon kicks off Sunday, and one racer is looking to complete a life-long goal of finishing 50 marathons in 50 states.

Tomorrow when Angel Marrero crosses the finish line, he will be halfway to his goal.

Marrero is from Ohio and has served on the Cleveland fire department for over 20 years. He said his training as a runner as helped him as a firefighter.

"If I'm at a fire, by the time a fire sometimes gets done, a lot of my colleagues will breathe their bottles down, and many times I'll still have a lot of air left," Marrero said.

Along with strength and endurance training, Marrero is on a strict dietary regime three months prior to a race. He said the day before he tries to drink a gallon and a half of water and eat a pound of pasta.

Marrero said the carbs keep him going for the 26 miles.

Marrero said his family typically goes with him to races. His wife even runs in marathons herself. He said he has taken his wife and six children to 20 different races in 20 different states.

The kids have only one request- to visit a zoo or aquarium in every city.

Marrero wants to complete 50 marathons in 50 states- but there is one last goal.

"When I turn 50 I want to finish in my 50th state," Marrero said.
