Potential Fianna Hills Country Club Buyer Pulls Out; Rezoning Tabled

Fort Smith city leaders on Tuesday night tabled a decision on rezoning the Fianna Hills Country Club, after the developer pushing for the large-scale redevelopment pulled out.

FSM Redevelopment Partners had planned to buy the country club and triple its size from 27,000 square feet to 83,550 square feet. The redevelopment would have required a new zoning classification, which was tabled by Fort Smith’s Board of Directors on Tuesday night.

The group notified the country club it was pulling out of the potential purchase, though, and was no longer interested in the Fianna Hills Country Club.

The club will operate on a normal basis and will hold a business meeting Thursday to review club operations, according to a letter sent to country club members.

This is exactly what is wrong with Ft Smith. We will never grow, never prosper, never get better because we have a handful of idiots that have decided they will tun this down with an iron fist. There is no reason that this development should not have been approved as soon as it was proposed. When someone wants to come in and invest millions of dollars in your community, you let them. I do not blame these developers from pulling out.
Until we have better leaders, we do not deserve anything nice. Let’s stick in another softball field and expect our economy to grow.

Wish there was a like button. This town is so strange. Everyone complains about the lack of recreation and lack of jobs. Well lets go turn down a option that would improve both areas. We will become a softball paradise however. FYI Fort Smith. Baseball brings in more revenue.

Why do you censore what I commented yet leave that mcclure fellows comments stand. My comments were of the opposing viewpoint using the same terminologies yet you deleted them. Maybe what holds this place down is the lack of good fair unbiased reporting.

This is exactly what is wrong with Ft Smith. We will never grow, never prosper, never get better because we have a handful of idiots that will let developers run the town with an iron fist. There is no reason that this development should have been approved and should have been thrown out as soon as it was proposed. Just because someone wants to come in and revise your neighborhood because they have the dollars and ruin your property values so that they may gain, you don’t let them. I do not blame these property owners for fighting for what is right for them.
Until we have better leaders, we do not deserve anything nice. Let’s stick in another strip center or maybe a convenience store in a neighborhood and expect our economy to grow. Homeowners pay taxes too you know!

I understand your concern. I signed a petition to prevent a hospice from being built in my neighborhood. But the current standing of the course is not very good. We have one man financially supporting the club because membership alone cannot do it. How to you raise membership, become financially independent and provide jobs? I understand the business development portion is concerning. However, this proposal with the potential medical school would have been a great combination for the region. Medical Professionals and golf is like peanut butter and jelly.
