The homeless Fayetteville man accused of stabbing his girlfriend to death last year had his trial reset Tuesday in Washington County Circuit Court, prosecutors said.

David Browning’s capital murder trial was rescheduled for June 2 in Judge William Storey’s courtroom, according to the Washington County Prosecutors’ Office. It had been scheduled to begin Tuesday.

Browning, 55, remains in the Washington County Detention Center without bond, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. He has been charged with capital murder, second-degree battery and terroristic threatening in connection with the death of Shirley Wolfe, of Fayetteville, according to court documents.

The suspect pleaded not guilty last September to the charges in front of a magistrate at the Washington County Detention Center. Browning has been in jail since Aug. 21, when he was arrested on suspicion of unrelated charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct, according to Fayetteville police records. On Aug. 23, Sgt. Craig Stout with the Fayetteville Police Department indicated he also was being held on suspicion of capital murder.

On Aug. 21, police received a call of a stabbing at 510 S. College Ave. Investigators found Wolfe’s body face-down in the living room with what appeared to be multiple stab wounds and blunt-force trauma, according to a preliminary report from the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office.

A witness told police he was with Browning and the victim on Aug. 21 and heard Browning threaten to kill her if she didn’t drop pending charges against him from a past incident.

Police confirmed to 5NEWS that Browning was the woman’s boyfriend.

Browning is listed as “homeless” in his Detention Center booking profile on the Washington County Sheriff’s Office website.
