The Centerton Farmer's Market will kick-off in a new location this year. It starts at 9 a.m. Saturday (April 5) on the corner of highway 102 and Sienna Drive. It runs through the end of October.
Charity Gilgen, who owns Livis Looms, is one of the vendors of the Centerton's Farmer's Market. It will be her first time. She crafts things like yarn from the wool of her herd of sheep.
"I've always had a passion for sheep," she said. "I just love how they look."
Her sheep have names like Scarlet, Bora Ingles and Mary Poppins. She started her craft last Spring after doing a bit of research. Gilgen has help from her daughter Olivia, who she calls Livi.
"I think she's probably more excited whenever I told her than I was," Gilgen said.
Gilgen also makes handmade lye soap and will have presentations on how to felt your own soap.
"You don't have any of those gross slivers of tiny soaps in your shower," Gilgen said. "The wool felts around it and shrinks to the soap until it's gone."
The Centerton Farmer's Market will have 11 vendors. Angie Ritch, maket manager, said, they're hoping that soon there will be many more.
"All the products are either made, grown or created locally," Ritch said.
Ritch said the farmer's market has failed in this town before because of lack of participation. However, they're optimistic this year, it will be a huge success.
She will also showcase her treats and baked goods for those who would like to eat at the market.
"We would just like to have this for Centerton and have something that the community can come and participate in," Ritch said.
As for Gilgen, she can't wait to share what she loves with the rest of the community.
"To create something for somebody to have, to use and enjoy is payment above what you can ever make monetarily," Gilgen said.
The Fayetteville Farmer's Market also kicks off Saturday. In Bentonville, the farmer's market starts April 26th. In Springdale, it starts May 3rd and the Rogers Farmer's Market is underway.
