April is Autism awareness month, and Developmental Wings hosted it's first super heroes for Autism 5K and 1 Mile run Saturday (April 5) morning.

The run took place at Chaffee Crossing in Fort Smith.

Participants attended the event dressed as their favorite super heroes as they helped raise money for Developmental Wings, a local organization that helps children with Autism and other disabilities.

Michelle Long, Executive Director of Developmental Wings, said the event had a great response.

She said they expected 100 people to registration, and they had 340 preregister.

Long said they planned on making the run a yearly event.

According to their website, close to 400 super heroes attended the 5K, and they raised over $7000.
