Teams always want their pitching staff to bring home pitcher of the week awards. Arkansas had two players do just that today.
Juniors Jalen Beeks and Chris Oliver shared the SEC pitcher of the week award after masterful performances against South Carolina over the weekend.
Beeks picked up a win in game two of the series as he threw a complete game while allowing just four hits and a single unearned run. Beeks also struck out nine, a career high.
Oliver helped Arkansas takes the series from No. 1 ranked South Carolina as he threw eight scoreless innings and struck out 10, also a career high. Oliver allowed just four hits.
“Getting one pitcher of the week honor is pretty special, but getting two is amazing,” Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn said. “Those were two outstanding performances and I’m glad they didn’t have to choose between them because they are both very deserving of the honor.”
The Razorbacks improved to 6-6 in the SEC behind the back-to-back wins and moved into the top-25 at No. 24 in the Baseball America poll. Arkansas faces UNLV in a two game series that starts on Tues.
