A Hazardous Materials unit responded Thursday afternoon to a traffic crash with a fuel spill on Interstate 540 near Sunset Avenue in Springdale, according to the Springdale Fire Department. Two people were injured in the wreck.

Emergency crews responded around 2 p.m. to the northbound lanes of the interstate near Exit 72, where a crash occurred involving a U.S. Foods semi-truck and a small Porche passenger car, according to the fire department. The fuel spill was declared under control at 2:54 p.m.

Two people from the Porche were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, according to emergency responders. Arkansas State Police later identified the two people as Kenneth Volleberg, 38, and Angela Minton, 22. Police said Volleberg was driving.

The crash had northbound traffic at a standstill for miles. Crews said the crash punctured the diesel fuel tank for the truck’s refrigeration unit, spilling the gasoline onto the ground.

The truck was driven by John Holloway, 27, according to state police. He was not injured in the crash.
