Aaron Nola doesn’t need much run support but he got plenty in Friday’s SEC series opener against Arkansas.
The LSU right-hander threw seven innings while striking out 13 as he led the Tigers to a 5-3 win at Box Stadium. Nola improves to 7-1 on the year.
LSU jumped out to an early lead as Alex Bregman drove in two with a single up the middle in the first off Arkansas starter Trey Killian. The Tigers pushed their advantage to 4-0 in the 3rd with Sean McMullen hit a two-run home run to right.
Arkansas (21-14) tried to get back into the game in the 7th as it had two runners on with one out but the Razorbacks had a runner thrown out at third after a single then Nola got a strike out to end the inning and the threat.
Brian Anderson led the Arkansas offense with two RBI. Killian (1-6) allowed four earned runs in eight innings.
