Christy Smith Named Women’s Hoops Assistant

Former Arkansas and WNBA player Christy Smith was named as the Razorbacks’ top assistant on Monday.

“I knew right away when I spoke with Christy that she shared the same passion and commitment to the Razorbacks that I do,” Dykes said.  “She knows what it is like to be a Razorback and she has taken that experience as a player and poured it into her coaching career in her home state of Indiana.  I feel like Christy is returning to her second home here in Arkansas and I can’t wait to begin working with her.  Christy proved herself as an elite level player at Arkansas and in the WNBA and has continued to achieve at that same high level as an assistant coach.  She is a home run hire for the entire Razorback nation.”

Smith was previously an assistant at both Puredue and Valparaiso.

Smith was a four time honorable mention All-American during her time as the Razorbacks’ point guard while earning all-SEC honors three times. She was also the SEC freshman of the year in 1995.

Smith is currently eighth in all time scoring at Arkansas, fourth in assists and third in steals. She was also inducted into the Arkansas Hall of Honor in 2005.
