An EF1 tornado struck Franklin County on Sunday (April 13), damaging numerous homes and barns, according to the National Weather Service.

"The wind started blowing, I got up and looked out, and I thought wow," said Vesta resident Jerry McDonald.

The tornado hit at 8:48 p.m. three miles west of Peter Pender between that town and Vesta, the weather service said. The tornado's path was four miles long. Its width had not been determined by Monday afternoon (April 14).

"Tin just spinning and blowing around," said McDonald.

In addition to damaging homes and barns, the tornado also snapped and uprooted hardwood and softwood trees.

"It was pretty bad. Everybody that I know was in their cellars," said Vesta resident Revona Commbes.

An EF1 tornado generates wind speeds of up to 110 mph, according to the weather service.
