Harris Steps Down As Lincoln Coach

Brad Harris accepts Benton defensive coordinator position after leading Wolves to school record 11 wins

Brad Harris has resigned as football coach to accept the defensive coordinator job at Benton. Harris led the Wolves to an 11-2 season and a 4A quarterfinals berth, both a first in school history.

“Brad was a class act and he perservered through things that a lot of people would have quit,” Lincoln athletic director Deon Birkes said. “He chose to stick around and did it with class and integrity. He made the job into a more attractive job.”

Birkes also said that the move was made for personal reasons.

Lincoln surprised the 4A landscape by finishing second in the 4A-1 and knocking off a pair of traditional powers in the postseason. The Wolves season came to an end in the quarterfinals to eventual state champion Booneville.

Birkes said the search has already begun to find a replacement.

“It’s really hard to put into words but it’s going to be one that fits,” Birkes said. “It’s not all about the X’s and O’s, there’s more to coaching that X’s and O’s. Coach Harris became part of the community and that is what we are looking for.

“We are going to do what it takes to get who we need in here. We’re not going to set ourselves up for failure because we want a coach by a certain date.”
