Spinach Festival Tradition Draws Hundreds To Alma

The Alma Spinach Festival is a Crawford County tradition that draws people from across the region.

The Alma Spinach Festival is a Crawford County tradition that draws people from across the region.

Hundreds of people were in downtown Alma Saturday for the 28th annual event. “It brings a lot of people into Alma. It also helps promote downtown and gets more people down here,” said Melanie Allen with the Alma Library.

There were several activities for the entire family including live music, food vendor, a Daisy BB gun range, mechanical bull and a spinach eating contest.

"Brought the kids so that they can see all of the fun stuff to do; the animals, taste all of the good food, everything like that. We are just enjoying the day, beautiful weather," said Dickey Mcanally, who brought his family to the festival.

Some attendees said they were already planning on coming back next year. "Of course, every single year, this is unbelievable to be around with all of the booths and home-made jelly and fragrances. It's remarkable," said Chyanne Hunter.

A pancake breakfast and a Dog Job 5-K kicked off the event Saturday morning.
