Polk County is set to receive more than $1.2 million in federal money to pay for damage from last year’s severe winter weather, according to a news release from U.S. Sen. Mark Pryor, D-Ark., on Thursday (April 24).

The money, provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, will go to the Rich Mountain Electric Cooperative in Mena for repairs to its distribution center, the release states.

After flooding in Polk County last year, Judge Brandon Ellison told 5NEWS that FEMA had given the county $130,000, adding he was expecting more funding to come in.

The majority of the $130,000 was reimbursement money, meaning it was to be used for repair work that was already completed.

“We’ve lost three pretty major bridges,” Ellison said last year.
