Hogs Drop Series To Auburn After DH Split

Diamond Hog’s drop series win in double header matchup against Auburn.

It seemed as though Arkansas had the momentum on their side after their first win in Saturday's double header, but it just wasn't enough.

Arkansas fell behind early in game two. A little hope after, Blake Baxendale lined a two-out two-run double down the left field line in the sixth inning, but that would be all the offense the Razorbacks could muster in a 7-2 loss.

The Diamond Hog’s rallied from a late deficit Saturday afternoon in game one and used a walk-off single in the 10th inning to defeat Auburn 4-3.

“In the first game, that was a great win for our team," Dave Van Horn, head coach said.  "Played an extra inning ballgame, first one of the year. We got out of a jam in the top of the tenth and found a way to win in the bottom of the tenth. We had a lot of momentum and I felt by coming back and winning that game, just the way it all went down, I thought the second game would be tight but we could win. Give credit to Auburn.”

The Razorbacks loaded the bases in the 10th inning with no outs, before Tyler Spoon came to the plate and delivered the team’s first walk-off win of the season with a single to right center.

Michael Gunn, the relief pitcher picked up the victory. Jacob Stone worked 3.1 hitless innings, while Jalen Beeks got the start and tossed 6.1 innings and gave up two earned runs on five hits.

Eric Fisher finished game one with three hits, including a leadoff double in the 10th, and came around to score the winning run. Andrew Benintendi, Joe Serrano and Brian Anderson each recorded multi-hit games, while Jake Wise drove in a pair of runs, including the tying run in the eighth inning.

The Razorbacks return to action Tuesday afternoon to take on Missouri State on the road.
