Fort Smith Police said the accident happened at the intersection of Kelley Highway and Midland Boulevard just after 2 p.m. after an officer tried to pull over a Nissan pickup truck for running a red light.

"The passenger of the vehicle called 911, said that her father was having some sort of medical issue and the Nissan continued on Kelley at the intersection of Midland and Kelley and collided with a couple of vehicles," said Sgt. Brandon Bird.

According to police four cars were involved in the initial accident and the Nissan crashed into eight other cars at Yasin's Used Car Lot. Three people were taken to the hospital. Police said the man driving the Nissan pickup had life-threatening injuries.
