A truck driver heading through Gentry called in a report of a bear this morning to a dispatcher, but after an officer searched the area, no bear was found, authorities say.

The truck driver reported seeing the bear on Arkansas 12 West in Gentry, and an officer of the Gentry Police Department responded within minutes, according to authorities.

The officer searched the area, and all that was found was a “very large” black Newfoundland dog, authorities say.

Authorities said they believe it was the dog that the truck driver saw and reported, not a bear.

Reports of bears are not uncommon in the area. Authorities say that at least three or four bear sightings are reported a year in the Gentry area.

a group of friends were in a park in denver, several decades ago, when one got out of the back of an suv. we thought it was a bear too. apparently we weren’t the only ones, as he walked up behind a guy sitting on the ground and lifted his leg….the poor guy was afraid to move…lol
