The Gentry Fire Department celebrated its 100th Anniversary Saturday (May 3).

The fire department serves more 3,000 people. It opened in 1914 and brought its first fire truck in the 1940’s. In honor of the anniversary, the fire department celebrated by bringing together the past and the present.

“We are celebrating and commemorating that with several of the retirees coming in to visit and then all of our current staff being on hand today doing open house, doing some child safety stuff,” said Gentry Fire Chief Vester Cripps.

U.S. Congressman Steve Womack spoke about the milestone on Thursday (May 1) before the House of Representatives in Washington, D.C. where he thanked the Gentry Fire Department for its 100 years of service and for continuing to protect the people of Gentry for the next 100 years.
