Police say a Benton County man drunkenly hit vehicles at two Springdale locations Saturday, speeding off each time before being caught later that day with two others who fled from the minivan.

Agustin Lara-Chiquito, 31, of Decatur, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of leaving the scene of an injury accident, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and second-degree battery. He remained Monday in the Washington County Detention Center on $3,500 bond, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Lara-Chiquito’s arraignment date is set for May 28.

Police said the suspect was involved in a two-vehicle wreck Saturday night at Sunset Avenue and 48th Street in Springdale. He fled the scene in a gray Toyota Sienna minivan, according to a preliminary report from the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office.

Officers responded a few minutes later to another crash report in Springdale, this time at Sunset Avenue and Jones Road, where a person was injured, the report states.

Tontitown officers later that night stopped the minivan suspected of fleeing the scene of both crashes, but three Hispanic men fled from the minivan, which had sustained severe front-end damage from the wrecks, police said. The three men were found and arrested, including the suspected driver, Lara-Chiquito.

“Lara-Chiquito was highly intoxicated and had the odor of beer on his breath, slurred speech and difficulty standing straight,” the reporting officer states in the preliminary report.

The suspect later admitted driving away after both crashes, police said.
