Serrano Gives Diamond Hogs Walk-Off Win

Joe Serrano’s single in the ninth inning gave Arkansas a 3-2 win over No. 20 Texas A&M

Joe Serrano delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth Friday evening to give the Arkansas Razorbacks a 3-2 series-opening victory over No. 20 Texas A&M at Baum Stadium.

Tied 2-2 heading to the last of the ninth inning, Michael Bernal led off with a single to left field and after a sacrifice moved him into scoring position, Serrano singled up the middle to bring home Bernal and give Arkansas its second walk-off win in the last three games at Baum Stadium.

“I think it was big for us," said Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn. "We have some injuries and some young guys out there. The more the game goes on, I feel like the pressure was on us. We really needed to win that game, we let it slip away, and for us to go back and grab it there, that was big for our team.”

Trey Killian lasted 8.0 innings on the mound and gave up just two hits and one run, while striking out seven.

Clark Eagan broke up a scoreless game in the third inning when he belted his first home run of the year over the wall in left field to give Arkansas a 1-0 lead.

The Razorbacks would extend the lead to 2-0, before the Aggies rallied with a run in the eighth and one more in the ninth to tie the game and setup the walk-off heroics from Serrano.

Game two of the weekend series is set for Saturday at 6:05 p.m. at Baum Stadium.
