It's the end of the road for some schools, and for others their state title journey is just getting started.
"We've got a really tough regional,” Mark Headley, Lavaca head coach said. “This gets us in the state tournament. First round gets you in the state tournament, but now from here we want to try to improve our seed."
It was a tough battle starting out the 3A regional tournament, and Lavaca was given a run for their money until one huge inning. Something Headley says is needed in his team's road to the state tournament.
"We were struggling there for about three innings. Then all the sudden you get one guy on and start hitting. And that's kind of what baseball is about, momentum and keeping that momentum."
As the tournament moves forward, it's not going to be an easy task. Last week's weather pushed games back and left little rest time. But teams like Charleston say they've got a plan.
"We're lucky enough to have 5 or 6 really good pitchers,” Josh Underwood, Charleston head coach said. “That's our advantage and you know they come to the ballpark ready to play."
"Try to get plenty of rest, play our best every game, and just try to overcome our obstacles," Taylor Bottoms, Charleston infielder said.
One of those obstacles on the road to state is preparing for so many teams at one time. But, the Tigers coach said they can't look at the big picture just yet.
"We're taking it one game at a time right now. The most important game now is this first game then we'll move on from there," Underwood said.
Moving on from there will come down to one thing for the Tigers.
"We all have to work together and it's going to be tough. But, you gotta do what you gotta do," Bottoms said.
