A West Fork man was arrested Tuesday after police say he raped a woman over the weekend.

Kenneth Vanzant, 21, was arrested on suspicion of felony rape and booked into the Washington County Detention Center, where he remained Tuesday night awaiting a bond hearing, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

No arraignment date has yet been set for Vanzant.

A local woman told police she and Vanzant were drinking alcohol at her home around 2 a.m. on Saturday, when she went into her bedroom to change out of her work uniform. Vanzant followed her into the room, and they laid on the bed, according to a preliminary report from the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office.

Police said Vanzant kissed the woman and touched her inappropriately while pulling her underwear down. The victim said she told the suspect “no” several times, but he would not stop.

Police said the victim cried and tried to push Vanzant away, but was unsuccessful. She then put her hands over her face “to block it out,” but Vanzant pulled her hands to the side and said, “No, I want to see your face. Look at me,” according to the preliminary report.

The victim later went to the emergency room at Washington Regional Medical Center, where she called police.
