The 188th Fighter Wing of the Arkansas Air National Guard based in Fort Smith will conduct its final training mission on Friday (May 16), according to a news release Thursday (May 15).

The 188th is currently working on a conversion from A-10C thunderbolt II “Warthog” fighters to a remotely piloted aircraft mission, the news release states.

The mission focuses on remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) that will specialize in targeting, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, according to the news release.

The last A-10 training mission will feature two Warthogs and will be the last A-10 flights at the 188th’s Ebbing Air National Guard Base until May 29, when Tail No. 638 is tentatively scheduled to depart for Moody Air Force Base in Ga., the news release states.

The final two Warhogs will leave the base on June 7 after the wing’s Conversion Day Ceremony. The 188th currently has three A-10s remaining on station, according to the release.
