Is sitting down for a bowl of cereal becoming a case of the cereal killers? A new report shows children are eating more than 10 pounds of sugar a year if they eat a bowl of children’s cereal each day.
The Environmental Working Group, a health information non-profit, studied 1,500 cereals and their sugar content. They group has released their “Hall of Shame,” cereals which have 50% sugar by weight.
Reports show an official with Kellogg, a cereal maker, says they have cut sugar in kids’ cereal 20-30 percent over time. They also have gone on record to say the report fails to point out the nutritional value–including lower fat and calories–than other choices.
