A civilian employee working as a Washington County detention officer was booked into jail late Tuesday (May 13) and faces a charge of assault on a family member and more, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Dalton Shepherd, 22, of Winslow was booked into the Washington County Detention Center on Tuesday, according to the Sheriff’s Office website. He was released on a $1,001 bond early Wednesday (May 14).
Shepherd was a civilian working as a detention officer at the detention center. He was not a certified sheriff’s deputy, officials said.
Shepherd resigned from the position on Wednesday (May 14), officials said.
On Tuesday (May 13) Tara Shepherd, Dalton’s soon to be ex-girlfriend, called dispatch saying that Dalton was following her and trying to run her off the road and he had her blocked in. She informed dispatch that she had her one-year-old child in the vehicle with her, according to court documents.
The court documents state that after Tara initially met Dalton to look over papers, he followed her on Interstate 49 traveling at speed sin excess of 85 miles per hour.
In addition to a misdemeanor charge of third-degree assault on a family member, Shepherd also faces charges of second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor and harassment, according to the website.
Shepherd is due in West Fork District Court for an initial appearance on Friday (May 16), the website states.
