A 10-year-old boy who found $10,000 in his family’s hotel room at the KCI Hilton in 2013 will soon be $10,000 richer, according to a report from our affiliate station WDAF.
Missouri Treasurer Clint Zweifel made an exception to a law that will allow him access to it, WDAF reported.
Zweifel wrote a letter to Kansas City Police Chief Darryl Forte, letting him know the 10-year-old can get the $10,000 he found much soon than initially thought, according to WDAF.
The family turned the money over to police, but since they didn’t follow other legal procedures to keep the money they found, they would have had to wait another four years to claim the cash, WDAF reported.
Now, thanks to the letter written, the 10-year-old should have the money much sooner, according to WDAF.
