Fayetteville Gets Shut Out In 7A Baseball State Championship Game

Bryant scored five runs in the first three innings and the Bulldogs never recovered.

It was suppose to be the game of the year between the two hottest teams in the state, but the Bryant Hornets proved their dominance over Fayetteville Friday in the 7A championship game at Baum Stadium, winning 10-0 in six innings.

The two teams had combined for seven of the last eight Arkansas state championships and were on a combined 40-game win streak.

Bryant scored early and often on star pitcher Andy Pagnozzi, jumping out to a 5-0 lead through three innings. Pagnozzi didn't even make it to that third inning, being pulled after 2 1/3 innings of work, allowing five runs. However, his defenders didn't give him much help as the Bulldogs allowed three unearned runs in the second inning alone.

Bryant added to its lead with back to back doubles in the fifth, making it 8-0. A two-run home run by Korey Thompson in the sixth inning ended the game via the run rule.
