Superstar Versus Underdog in 7A Soccer State Title

Har-Ber comes into the state title game as the underdog. They look for a first state title in school history against undefeated Bentonville.

The superstar versus the underdog.

For the first time in school history, Har-Ber will be competing for a soccer state championship, and they'll be doing it against the undefeated Bentonville Tigers. But, many may not have expected them to make it this far.

"That's funny because coming into the season we had high expectations, the way we played last year, winning the conference and all that," Nelson Medina, Har-Ber head coach said. "In our eyes this is where we'd be. We always felt like we would be in the finals, but we didn't know we would take this road to get there."

That road included taking down the number one seed and defending state champs, Northside. Medina says they aren't underdog, and their opponents agree.

"They had three terrific results last weekend, knocking off the state champion from last year," Michael Devaney, Bentonville head coach said. "So obviously they are going to come into this game brimming with confidence. So, certainly we're going to have our hands full with Har-Ber on Saturday."

The Tigers and Wildcats capped the regular season with a meeting where Bentonville narrowly came out on top. Another tough battle is expected now with more on the line.

"They're going to be that team that's going to come after us, and we're just going to have to be prepared, play out best game to get the win and end up champions," Eric Johnson, Bentonville senior defender said.

Har-Ber says they've got what it takes this time around.

"It's going to take a perfect game to beat them, but we can do it," Ben O'Brien, senior goal keeper said. "We know we can do it. Last time we played them, it was a one nothing win for them but, we have the team, our defense is clicking right now, we're getting goals. We know we can do it."
