There are over 7,000 veterans buried at Fayetteville National Cemetery, and every tombstone has a flag next to it for Memorial Day--- including Ron Urban's father and grandfather.

Bentonville man Ron Urban said he grew up in a military family. On Saturday he visited his father and grandfather at the cemetery. He said he had no idea there would be flags at their graves.

"When you look around and you see all these flags…it just stirs your heart," Urban said.

Urban's father served in the Coast Guard during Vietnam; his grandfather was in the Army during World War II.

He said Memorial day is a time for everyone to thank all of the military men and women who serve and have served.

"It is for today's heroes and yesterday's heroes, to come out and honor what they did for us to be able to have the freedom to do what we do everyday,” Urban said.

He said his grandfather had a warm reception coming home from World War II. He said his father did not have the same response.

"I didn’t appreciate his experiences when I was younger probably like I should have,” Urban said.

He said neither men shared much about serving our county, but he said his one regret is not asking for more stories.

"That’s what this is about... its honoring their service and honoring their memory,” Urban said.

For those who want to pay tribute to the soliders buried at Fayetteville National Cemetery, there is a public Memorial Day Ceremony at 10 a.m.
